- School Board Trustee, (4 year term) General Election – 4 Positions
Qualifications of Board Candidates
A qualified candidate shall be defined as a person who is:
- a registered voter in the May Independent School District.
- a resident in the May Independent School District for six (6) months and a resident of the State of Texas for twelve (12) months prior to the filing deadline for election.
- 18 years of age (or older) on the first day of the term to be filled at the election.
- a person who meets all other requirements as provided by law stated in Texas Election Laws: Election Code: Subchapter A: Eligibility Requirements for Public Office: Section 141.001.
Election Information
Applications for a place on the ballot can be obtained at the May ISD Administration Building, 3400 County Road 411 E, May, Texas 76857. Applications are available for pick up during normal business hours, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Note: during the month of July office hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Return completed applications to the Superintendent Office by the deadlines listed below. Any questions, please call 254-259-2091.
Important 2018 Election Dates
June 21: Deadline to post notice of candidate filing period.
July 21: First day to file an application for a place on the Election Ballot
August 20 @ 5:00 PM: Deadline for filing for place on General Election Ballot
August 23: Deadline to file application for place on the ballot or declaration of write-in candidacy in a special election to fill a vacancy.
August 24: Deadline to file declaration of write-in candidacy in the general election.
August 27: Deadline to hold drawing to determine order of candidate’s names on the ballot. Notice of the date, hour, and place of the ballot must be posted continuously for 72 hours immediately preceding the scheduled time of the drawing and mailed to candidates not later than the fourth day before the drawing.
August 28 @ 5:00 PM: Last day a candidate may withdraw from the election.
September 7: Deadline to deliver notice of the election to the county election officer.
October 7-27: Timeframe in which to publish notice of the election.
October 9: Last day to register to vote or make changes to a voter’s address to be effective for the November election
October 16: Deadline to post notice of election on bulletin board used for posting board meeting notices.
October 22-November 2: Early Voting
November 6: Election Day
November 9-20: Canvassing period
December 6: Deadline to file electronic precinct-by-precinct returns with the Secretary of State’s office.
